Zedu Weekly Wrap – 20 June 2025

What a huge week…

straight off the back of the ASA conference, into a full week of emergency medicine training. Whew! No rest for us wicked ultrasuond educators. Thank goodnesss it’s the solstice this weekend – looking forward to the days getting lighter and longer with more sunshine after work to recharge🌞

This week the news was coming thick and fast! There’s a load of great stuff – we recommend checking out🚀✨

  • Echocardiographic Diagnosis of Rheumatic Heart Disease: Substantial Agreement, Inter-Rater Reliability and Accuracy Between Cardiac Sonographers and Paediatric Cardiologists (20 June)
  • Training non-expert users in cardiopulmonary point-of-care ultrasound using a virtual curriculum and tele-consultation model: A multicentre study (17 June)
  • Is ultrasound training sustainable? A systematic review of competency retention in healthcare trainees (16 June)

And don’t forget – if you are planning to use your CME for a ultrasound training and system bundle be sure to get in touch with Michael over the next week or so to get the ball rolling – time will soon be short 🙂

See you next week

Leader-follower dynamics in medical training: A dual mobile eye-tracking analysis of teacher-student gaze patterns

Figure 1. Areas of Interest (AOIs) defined for analysis of teacher-student gaze patterns during TEE training. The study environment was divided into distinct Areas of Interest (AOIs) for eye-tracking analysis: (A) ‘Patient’ AOI showing the simulated patient/mannequin with TEE probe placement; (B) ‘ECG’ AOI displaying the patient monitoring screen showing vital signs during the simulation; (C) ‘Anatomy’ and ‘Sonography’ AOIs showing the side-by-side display of ultrasound visualization (right) and the corresponding 3D anatomical heart model (left); and (D) ‘Face’ AOI for capturing interpersonal gaze during teacher-student interactions (face obscured for privacy). Fiducial markers (apriltag) visible throughout the scene enabled automated identification and tracking of each AOI during analysis of gaze data. Red outlines indicate the defined schematic boundaries of each AOI used in the gaze lag calculations.
